Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Well, it has been a simply hellish day at the office. Suffice to say that I’m planning on heading home and taking a nice long hot bath as soon as possible. That and catching up on some of my letters. Apparently certain old friends of mine think that if I don’t write them every other week, I’ve forgotten all about them! Still, I shouldn’t complain. Writing to my old school mates keeps my mind off of other troubles, after all, and helps my brain unwind after two weeks of wrestling with absolutely intractable problems.

Speaking of intractable problems, I believe I need to speak with my choir director tomorrow. He doesn’t like us to miss practice without any notice, and it simply wouldn't due to be kicked out before our big concert because I forgot to tell him I was going to be out of the country for the next week or so. The piece we’ve been working on this week is simply beautiful. If anyone wants to attend, I’ll be sure to drop you a note about when and where!

And it is a simply beautiful day today, as long as I’m in the mood for counting my blessings. On my way to work I could see that the sun was shining, there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky, and the birds are finally starting to sing again every morning. Also, none of my neighbors have been attempting to drive me crazy lately. Bless their hearts, but I sometimes think they forget they’re not the only ones in the building, the way they blast their music or scream at the top of their lungs. Ah, well, I guess I shouldn’t complain. A loud thump on their wall or a yelled reminder that other people are trying to enjoy some peace and quiet is usually enough to get them to stop.

- Man three doors down having issues with his wife. Intervene?
- Pros = less yelling in long run
- cons = possible problems with “interfering”
- Dumbledore seems worried. Death Eater pardons, or something else? Must keep better eye on the news, muggle & wizarding
- Should get back in touch with s.o the old order. Get reacquainted and such

Choir? Does that mean it's been you keeping up with that incessant humming, or mumbled singing or whatever the bloody hell it was that's been driving me completely batty trying to figure out where it was coming from? If it is you, I must insist that you cease and desist before I either completely lose my mind or you lose your head.

Oh come now, Dorcas. Surely you can't be referring to my singing as hellish? I assure you, I'm only doing it out of necessity. If I didn't do a little impromptu practice on the side I'm afraid the job would drive me out of my gourd completely.

It's either the singing or my sanity, love. Sorry.

It is hellish.

That's the same as saying "Your sanity or Mine." You're aware of that, yes?

You keep using this word, hellish. I don't think it means what you think it means. Why not use something more appropriate, like heavenly or saintly or adorable?

Oh, come now Dorcas. Your sanity has never been in question. Your hospitality, maybe, but never your sanity.

If I were looking to use antonyms for words which could be used to describe your singing, then yes, those would be quite appropriate.

My sanity will be in question if you keep up the singing loud enough for me to hear you during work.

If I were looking for antonyms, my dear Dorcas, I would have gone for "hellish" or "ear - piercing".

How about if I just hum then? I'm sure I can keep that quiet enough for your delicate ears. And I'll still get in the practice I need to stay in the choir and not disappoint the public. A win - win situation, wouldn't you say?

Dearborn, you've gone and mixed up your definitions again. We've been over this, y'know. Antonym: A word directly opposed to another in meaning. Clearly, you're thinking of synonym when you use those words. Synonym: Words which can be used interchangably in a given context

Now that it's written down maybe it'll stick.

Fine. Humming then.

Ah, yes. Thank you for that refresher course in vocabulary and grammar, Dorcas. It's just like being in school all over again. Sad, to think that all the afternoons my poor mother spent trying to pound the rules of the English language into my preoccupied mind could have been solved by writing it down in a journal.

I should have used words like "divine" and "dulcet".

And I'm glad we've finally come to an agreement. Humming it shall be!

Don't go blaming your mother. She probably did the best she could. It isn't her fault your stubborn arse refused to learn from her.

Your thick as a brick, you know?

You'll know you're too loud when the stapler flies at your head.

Between you and Dorcas everyone's going to be dead in a week.

You're in choir? You realiz-- sorry, mate, it's too easy.

She's all bark and no bite, trust me. A regular angle, I'm quite sure, underneath all the hostility and aggression.

....easy to what, Sirius? You've gotten me curious all of a sudden.

You see, I knew I could get you to admit it someday if I just kept at it! Hard work and determination, that's what solves any problem in the world.

Sarcasm, Dearborn. Learn the definition and then apply it to anything I say that could be misconstrued as agreement.

Oh, now you're just being difficult because I've seen right through you. It's what being an Unspeakable is all about, you know! Well, that and not speaking about our work. Like the way you looked this morning before your coffee.

I'm fairly certain I've warned you about talking about how I look before my morning coffee...

And once more I'll state that there's nothing to see through.

Right, right. I've been foolish and lax. I promise to never breathe a word to another soul about the state of your hair when we all had to come in at 5:30 in the morning.

And yet more denials. It's both challenging and sad at the same time. How very odd.

I didn't know you could sing and you have a concert coming up at that? If I can get out of work in time I will try to make it. I can see if Ted would come as well. I think he would enjoy coming.

Well, I do sing. Whether or not I can sing is a matter of some debate, as you may have guessed from dear Dorcas' comments above.

Once I get a set date from our director, you and Ted will be the first to know!
